Medicare recipients have a couple of choices for their health insurance coverage. They have Medicare Part A for their hospital expenses, Medicare Part B for other health insurance costs and they can also add Part D for their prescription drugs. These plans cover most of the costs, but seniors with Medicare Part A and B may need a Medicare plan supplement. Types of Medicare Plan Supplements
Seniors will purchase Medigap policies from private insurance companies in their areas, and they will choose the Medicare plan supplement that they find to be the most advantageous to them. They have several choices beyond Parts A, B and D to include C, F, G, K, L, M and N. Under Plan K, seniors will have the excess coinsurance covered for their Part A coverage and up to 365 extra days of hospital coverage. It also covers 50 percent of the patient’s portion of the costs for coinsurance and co-payments for services such as skilled nursing care facilities and hospice care.
Medicare Supplement Plan D
If the coverage for Plan K is not sufficient, seniors may decide to purchase another Medicare plan supplement that covers even more of the costs they would be required to pay. Medigap Plan D will cover all coinsurance, co-payments and deductibles seniors would need to pay for personally under the Part A and Part B benefits. The only charges it will not cover are those related to Part B; the deductible and the excess charges are not included in this coverage.

The Medicare supplemental insurance plans are all different, and some will be more expensive than others. Seniors must not think that they cannot afford to purchase the most thorough plan that they would like. They will be able to find an insurance company that can sell them the Medicare supplement that has everything they are looking for at a reasonable price.
